What People Are Saying
Summary: Dio takes up a gig as a market research guinea pig and begins a ticklish descent into a world that may or may not exist. A Modern Champion of the World has been called “a non-paginated novel in prose like jokes.” See what all the fuss is about!
Reviews:
Emma Nation, KMUD Radio: “Tammy, your lyrical prose correlates to George Lucas’s special effects. The story’s great, but the special effects create much of the memorable impact.”
Marina Lazzara, Poet: “Wow. It’s a book inside a book inside literary history. I just want to call in sick and read your novel.”
Wendy Taylor Dherin, Writer/Scene Maker: “It’s a comedic dystopian punk rock non-binary psychedelic psyops thriller in nonpaginated prose like form.”
John Boggs, Librarian: “I'm loving the surreal turn it's taken. I like how you pack a lot into your prose, enjoyed how you presented Dio's confused & loopy inner-self."
Lisa Sheffield Guy, Semi-Feral Naturalist: “It reminds me a bit of Armistead Maupin, but edgier in a good way, and I keep thinking it is set back in the 60s, but then get surprised when a modern reference pops in.”
Linda Moody, Singer and Guitarist for Excuses for Skipping: “Tammy Fortin writes the metaphorical tale of Dio, a non-gendered urban slacker who seeks relief from economic woes and a recent break-up, through a cult-like marketing research experiment gone awry. Dio travels into a surreal universe which will leave a permanent mark on their life trajectory. Tammy's cinematic writing style focuses in with microscopic detail, then zooms out brilliantly revealing the deeper meaning of the subtext. I thoroughly enjoyed traveling and laughing with Dio through the "rooms" of their unconscious mind and comical perspectives! A great read!”
